In this crazy election year, truth is truly stranger than fiction – and here’s another example. Supporters of Hillary Clinton are targeting donors who have supported the Bush family in an effort to take money for Clinton that could have gone to Republican Donald Trump.
According to Politico, Clinton supporters have made several phone calls this week, now that Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee. Here’s a quote from a major Bush donor and bundler according to Newsmax:
“I got a call from a friend, a Hillary supporter, and he said he’d love to chat about what a disaster Trump is.
“Then I got a call from another guy, also a big Democrat, who said exactly the same thing. I responded to one in an email and said I didn’t really think Trump was a disaster and I’d be supporting him because Hillary would be a bigger disaster. It’s smart that they are doing it but I don’t know how much it will work.”
Clinton supporters are hoping this crevice in the party will result in some of its big donors defecting and giving large sums of money to Clinton, who’s the Democrat front-runner.
Some Republicans have been suspicious of the history and relationship between the Bush and Clinton families. This doesn’t come as a total shock, and it reinforces the theory that there isn’t much difference (if any) between the Republican and Democratic parties.
Does this news of Clinton supporters going to Bush donors for campaign cash surprise you, or is this “politics as usual” in Washington DC?
